Iran Travel Codes 2021

The Social rules
Before traveling to any country, by getting information about the social laws and culture of the people of Iran, you can prevent some of the problems in addition to enhancing the enjoyment of your trip. Here are some information about the social and cultural laws of the Iranian people.
The Iranian Behavior
The Iranian people are extremely hospitable, and on your trip to Iran, you may find that there is no place in the world with such a great extent of enthusiasm for the foreign tourists. When you enter Iran you will feel this interest and warm welcoming. You will probably get invited for a cup of tea or coffee; and many people will probably take some pictures with you and sometimes even invite you to their homes to welcome you. Also during your trip to Iran, you will probably be paid a lot of compliments.
For example, you will probably get into a taxi after entering Iran, and upon arriving at the destination, the driver will refuse to receive your money and will probably use the word: "be our guest." This is known as "Toarof") in Iranian culture. However, you have to pay the driver money because otherwise the driver might tell you afterwards, please give me my money. Another example we can give you is when Toarof takes place at the entrance of doors. For example, imagine you and an Iranian are in front of the elevator door. You will probably see this behavior from the Iranian who tells you after you! He/she will not go in before you. Since you will encounter this style of compliments in most places in Iran, you should get used to it so that you can enjoy your trip.
How to treat women
There are different cultures for dealing with women in Iran. But, in general, women in Iran are highly respected. For example, in Iran, ladies first is very common. Another example is that in Iranian families, the ultimate decision-maker is the mother of family. Of course, as we said, the cultures are different. Therefore, in Iran you may find out that a woman is going to shake hands with you; in this case, shake hands, but in some other cases this may not happen because of the Islam religion. So we suggest that during your trip to Iran and before shaking hands with women, let them step forward to do so, so that you wont have any problems. During your journey you will find different coverings by the ladies that vary according to their culture. So do not be surprised by this kind of cover variation.
The interest in taking photos with you
After your trip to Iran, you will certainly take many on-demand photos with Iranians during your trip. The Iranian people are very interested in foreign tourists. So they try to interact with you, even in some cases by saying the word Hi. So if you answer them, they will be very happy but if you give them the cold shoulder, you will certainly upset them. In addition, many people will probably request to take a photos with you, especially in less touristic cities. If you have patience, do not reject their request and take pictures with them. It is also recommended that if you are interested in photographing the Iranian people, you should first obtain permission from them because otherwise you might have some problems.
Respect for the Elders
In ancient Iranian culture, the elderly is highly respected and which is still prevalent in Iranian culture, especially in small towns. The best way to show your respect to Iranians, especially the elderly, is to say hello. To say hello, use the Persian word"Salam" to make this intraction work well. By this greeting, you not only respect the other person but also it may be useful in some places. In a traditional market, for example, by greeting and respecting someone who is in charge of a part of the market, you can visit some of the places where other tourists are unable to visit.
The Dining Culture
The Iranian people have a great variety of food. But they are following a general culture for eating and preserving a set of rules for the table or "Sofreh" (a tablecloth that is spread on the floor, the foods are put all over it and all the family sit around it and start to eat). In some Iranian families, people still sit around the Sofreh to eat and there is a special respect for it in Iranian culture. For example, the members of a family usually start eating together but after the older person of the family starts. Also in Iran, the Iranian people avoid doing certain things at the table or around the Sofreh like belching, sniffing and munching. So you should avoid such conducts if you intend not to distract Iranians while eating with them. Also at the table you may be overwhelmed by the excessive suggestions that others will urge you to eat this or that food and sometimes you may laugh at the intensity of those suggestions.
