Iran Travel Needs

Driving in Iran

It is very important to prearrange transportation in Iran. Not all cities have subways and if you plan to cut costs when using public transport, you should find bus stops and taxi stops through the routing applications which we introduce in the following:

Driving regulations in Iran

You probably know about the international driving license and the countries where this document is eligible. Fortunately, Iran is among the countries where an international driving license is acceptable.
Therefore, having the required documents in hand, you can drive in Iran. However, considering the different structure of Iran’s roads and also driving regulations, in order to avoid unexpected trouble while driving, we strongly advise you not to drive by yourself.
If for any reason you want to drive your own car in Iran, you should have Carnet de passages en douane, a custom document that allows you to enter Iran.
Fortunately, Deytrips has considered appropriate means of transportation for all Iran tours. Please note that tourists from the US, Canada and the UK can only enter Iran in tours, so they cannot drive their own cars in Iran.

Public transportation in Iran

Tehran, Shiraz, Mashhad and Tabriz have active metro lines and other cities have extensive taxi and bus networks. We recommend that you travel to Iran with a tour guide so you can go around by private car and driver.
The following two online applications provide online taxi services (such as Uber) in Iran:
Snapp
Tapsi

Money

The first challenge tourists face in Iran destinations is the money currency; Although Rial is the Iranian currency, all transactions are settled in Toman. However, there is no need to worry. To convert Rial to Toman, you simply omit a zero from the Rial number. For example, if something costs 70000 Rials, you should pay 7000 Tomans for it.
The next challenge is that international credit cards are not valid in Iran. you can either pay in cash, which seems unwise of course, or use a travel bank card provided by an Iranian bank
To do so, you have to go to Melli bank in Imam Khomeini international airport and get a tourist credit card with your passport. Tourist cards are chargeable cash cards which could be topped up as needed. Almost all over Iran cities (except for the very distant locations) you can make purchases by your tourist card.
